So I was sitting here, procrastinating, when I realized that Christmas is in exactly 2 months.  That's crazy!!  I mean, October is almost over, then Thanksgiving, and then 3 weeks after Thanksgiving I get to go home for Christmas!  This is pretty cool!

Also, I only have to attend 9 more chapels to fulfill this semester's requirement.  Considering I already attended 15, and now that Oxygen is over I have time for evening Alternate chapels, this is quite the accomplishment.  I'm squeezing in as many chapels as I can now so I can be done.  I'm suddenly really, really glad that I didn't sleep through all of those chapels I really wanted to skip!

Additionally, Ben gets back from Tyndell AFB Tuesday, so I finally get to talk to him Wednesday night at 2130 (that's 9:30 pm for those of you who don't read military time).  I'm pushing for an actual telephone conversation (), but we'll see how that works out.

I'm not drowning in homework yet, although it disturbs me that I'm not more concerned by the 4-page paper I have to write on a book that I haven't read... that's due tomorrow.  I guess extra sleep makes me less crazy.  Worst comes to worst, I can always skip chapel tomorrow morning and just go on Thursday instead.  Now there's an idea.........

Oh, and PS Messiah students... only 21 days of classes until our 5-day Thanksgiving Break... only 31 days of classes and 4 days of finals until our 19-day Winter Break.

Official Marching Band Field-Show Rules:

1.  DO NOT sing.

2.  DO NOT talk.

3.  DO NOT use giant trees.

4.  If you find yourself doing any of the items listed above, it means your show sucks.  Automatically.

5.  DO NOT play any instruments with which you cannot march.  THIS INCLUDES GUITARS!! (This does NOT include pit percussion).

6.  DO NOT wear white pants if you can’t march.  It becomes painfully obvious.

7.  Scenery of any sort is generally bad.  A distraction to mask a poor show.  If the focus of your show is wood and not music/guard, just stop.

8.  DO NOT desecrate cool songs from the 1970s at any time!

9.  Drum majors should NOT dress like sluts.  C’mon, you’re supposed to be a positive reflection on your school!  Cover your skin!  Especially when it's about 20 degrees outside!

10.  A primarily Caucasian marching band should not do an American Indian tribute.  It makes you look desperate for points.

11.  Err on the side of simplicity.

12.  If you’re not going to perform with energy, stay off the field.

13.  If your marching band is from Easton, it sucks.  It’s a good thing I like Mask of Zorro so much, or they would have ruined it.

14.  Nazareth is better than you.  So, YOUR MOM!!

15.  I’m a Nazareth alum with essentially no connection to the band, so I’m allowed to be proud of the band.  If you are in the band, DON’T BE PROUD!!  Keep working.  You can always, always get better.  Just don’t break any of the rules listed above.  Please.  I’m begging.

That was probably the least-relaxing break I have ever had... but it was fun anyway!

I'm taking a quick break from re-settling in to update this thing-y, just so everyone knows that I'm okay and haven't drowned in a river of self-pity yet.

I got to see some people I hadn't seen for a while, which was super-swell.  My aunt's still down with the twins, who are two and, while adorable, are extremely nuts.  They made me tired.

I discovered over break that I don't seem to miss people as much as they seem to miss me.  I'm wondering if that's strange, or if I should feel bad.  In fact, I wanted to get back to school.  I mean, it was nice to see everyone, but I wanted my dorm room and yes, even my classes, back.  The only things I didn't miss were Lottie food and my roommates.  Then on top of that, I missed my friends from Nazareth more than I missed my parents.  I'm a terrible daughter.

Yesterday we had my birthday celebration, which was nice.  I got this very cool set of rings from my parents, a John Lennon book from my aunt, a coffee pot from my grandparents and aunt, a DVD of the David Bowie Reality Tour from Jesse (BTW, I watched it, and it's FABULOUS!!!), and money, which I always need.  It was a good birthday, until my family started fighting about my prick of an uncle... so my parents and Jesse and I left and went to Soundfest.  At Soundfest we developed a list of rules regarding marching band, which I may post at a later time.

Oooh, I also saw Silence of the Lambs (for the first time) and Saved.  Both were pretty neat, although very different.  You should see them both.

I was the first one back to the dorm room.  Now, for those of you who know me, my mess has to get worse before it gets better.  So I was half-way moved in with stuff strewn about everywhere when Lenora walked in and just looked at me.  Ooops.  She very pointedly "tripped" over one of my bags, looked at her desk and said, "Wow, the room is so clean... except for your side."  Grrrrrr... people kept asking me over break why I don't just move out.  My answer is simple:  She's a pain in the ass, but not so much of a pain that I'm willing to sacrifice the great stories I get to tell later.

Back to straightening up, before she gets back from dinner with her brother.  Later!!

Disclaimer:  This is not a "Pity-Me Post."  I am not writing this so one of my well-meaning friends will post a comment to "cheer me up."  If you feel so inclined as to leave a kind, pitying comment... don't.  I'm not in the mood, and chances are, I know where you live.  So just don't.  This is me venting.

It's been confirmed:  I'm a two-bit talent who had her glory days in high school.  Hell, they weren't even that glorious.  With every audition, I become more convinced that I don't belong in theatre.  I gave a shitty audition and an even shittier call-back.  I'm about to go check the callboard before Intro to Acting, just to confirm what I already know:  Wind of a Thousand Tales is NOT my show... and neither, I'm starting to think, is anything else.

Yeah, I take rejection personally.  What's your point? (Posted at 9:48 AM)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Officially confirmed my status as House Manager/Publicity.  Congratulations to those of you who are talented and made the show.  At least I'm not the damn Stage Manager again... and at least my roommates aren't here to "console" (read, pity) me.  They don't do theatre, so they don't understand anything, and it's something I can't explain, so then everybody gets frustrated and I hope I can avoid them until I leave for home at 3:00.  (12:10 PM)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Never mind... they're back.  First thing Lenora said:  (looked at trash can) "We should empty this."  My first thought:  "Yeah, okay, go for it.  No one's stopping you!!!"

I WANT TO GO HOME!!!!!!!!  I'm having one of those days when I just need to be held...

This has been the coolest (and longest) birthday ever!!

So I already talked about the serenading and the decorated door, which would have been enough to make this my favorite birthday yet.  Oh no, there's more!

At exactly 12:01 AM today I opened the package from home that's been sitting in my dorm room since I got back on Sunday.  In it I found the most awesome brownies ever, streamers, balloons, various forms of pure sugar, party hats, all kinds of decorations, and just a plethora of fun birthday items.  So Ranae, Kristen, Laura, Patti, Rae and I donned party hats and balloons and then just randomly ran around campus looking for Mary and her boyfriend so we could embarrass her.  We were totally barefoot, it was raining and cold, and it was SOOOOOOOO much fun!!!

Then about 15 minutes ago my cell phone rang; it was Laura and Jenna, and they sang "Happy Happy Birthday" from The Emperor's New Groove (our signature movie, along with Drop Dead Gorgeous) and wished me a happy birthday and it was all wonderful!

Have I mentioned that this has been the best birthday EVER?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!  I think it's because I'm at college and we can do goofy stuff like run around campus at 12:30 in the morning and decorate dorm doors and have random guys go to windows and sing... this has been SO FABULOUS!!!!!!!!
